4-Paragraph Structure Formula
1. Introduction
- Sentence 1: Paraphrase prompt (state the trend).
- Sentence 2: Outweigh statement (state whether benefits exceed drawbacks).
2. Body Paragraph 1 (Advantages)
- Topic Sentence: Introduce the main benefits of the trend.
- Explanation: Detail the primary benefit and add a secondary benefit.
- Example: Provide an example showing the upside.
3. Body Paragraph 2 (Disadvantages)
- Topic Sentence: Contrast with the negative aspects.
- Explanation: Detail the drawbacks and risks.
- Example: Provide an example of the negative impacts.
4. Conclusion
- Sentence 1: Summary (summarize positive and negative dimensions).
- Sentence 2: Final Assessment (reiterate your view on which side is more significant).
Examiner Key Advice
Group your pros and cons strictly. Never mix an advantage into the disadvantage paragraph, as this disrupts coherence and logical organization.
Use comparative language to explain why one side carries more weight.
Use precise vocabulary like "detrimental", "beneficial", "drawback", and "exacerbate".
If the prompt asks if one outweighs the other, take a definitive stance.
