The 4 Criteria Tested in Every Evaluation

Each criterion contributes 25% to your overall IELTS Writing score. Here is what our diagnostic engine checks:

Task Response (TR / TA)

Coverage & Position

Checks that you fully answered all parts of the question, presented a clear and sustained position, and supported each main idea with relevant examples.

Coherence & Cohesion (CC)

Logical Progression

Evaluates paragraph structure, clear central topics per paragraph, and penalizes mechanical connectors in favor of organic cohesive flow.

Lexical Resource (LR)

Vocabulary & Collocations

Audits academic word choice, idiomatic phrasing, and precise collocations while catching forced or unnatural thesaurus substitutions.

Grammatical Range (GRA)

Syntactic Variety & Accuracy

Assesses the mix of complex sentence structures (relative clauses, conditionals, passive forms) and flags punctuation and tense errors.

Practice Questions & Advice

Common questions about our evaluation system and test preparation.

How does the free evaluation practice work?

Every student can test IELTS Evaluator immediately with 1 free evaluation as a guest without creating an account. When you register a free account, you unlock 2 additional free evaluations (total 3 lifetime free evaluations). If you need unlimited daily submissions, you can upgrade to Pro for $4.99/month.

Can I practice Academic Task 1 charts, graphs, and maps?

Yes! You can paste the chart description or upload an image (JPG, PNG, WebP) of the actual chart, graph, map, or process diagram. Our vision AI verifies that your overview and data points accurately reflect the source visual.

How is Task 2 weighted compared to Task 1?

In the official IELTS test, Writing Task 2 carries twice as much weight (66.7%) as Task 1 (33.3%). We recommend spending approximately 40 minutes on Task 2 (minimum 250 words) and 20 minutes on Task 1 (minimum 150 words).

What makes this evaluation different from ChatGPT or Grammarly?

Generic AI tools don't know the official IELTS band descriptors. They praise overly complex, flowery sentences that actually penalize your Coherence (CC) score, and they cannot detect if your position is fully developed (TR). IELTS Evaluator evaluates your response strictly against the 4 official Cambridge/IDP criteria.
